Counterfeit VEET Operation Busted in Hubballi: Police Seize Large Cache of Fake Cosmetic Products

In a significant enforcement action aimed at dismantling counterfeit manufacturing networks, the Hubballi Town Police carried out a successful raid on a suspected illegal operation in Kalamman Agasi, situated in the Hubballi Dharwad City area of Karnataka. The raid, conducted on Monday, February 17, 2025, resulted in the seizure of a large quantity of counterfeit VEET personal care products.

The operation was initiated after a formal complaint was filed by the Intellectual Property Investigation & Detective Services (IPINDS) team, which alerted local authorities to the unauthorized production of fake VEET items — a trusted brand owned by M/S Reckitt Benckiser (India) Pvt. Ltd.

Arrest and Legal Action:

Under FIR No. 0026/2025, the accused individual, identified as:

• Nagaram

was arrested and taken into custody at the scene. He is suspected of illegally manufacturing and distributing counterfeit versions of the popular VEET brand, posing a threat to consumer safety and brand integrity.

Charges Filed:

The offender has been charged under:

• Section 63 of the Copyright Act, 1957 – dealing with infringement of copyright and associated penalties

• Section 318(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Act, 2023 – related to the illegal sale and distribution of counterfeit goods

These provisions empower authorities to take firm legal action against offenders, including financial penalties and potential imprisonment.

Authorities emphasized that counterfeit cosmetic products pose serious public health risks, as they are often manufactured in unhygienic conditions and may contain unregulated or harmful chemicals. The seizure included products closely mimicking genuine VEET packaging, making them particularly dangerous to unsuspecting consumers.
