Major Counterfeit Crackdown at Mumbai’s Platinum Mall Uncovers Fake “Ne Minute” Glassware Operation

In a significant enforcement action against counterfeit consumer products, the V.P. Road Police, supported by the Intellectual Property Investigation & Detective Services (IPINDS), executed a strategic raid at Platinum Mall, located on Pathe Bapurao Marg, one of South Mumbai’s busiest wholesale markets. The operation uncovered a substantial stockpile of counterfeit “Ne Minute” glassware, being sold under a well-known brand name without authorization.

The raid led to the arrest of three wholesalers, each operating out of prominent retail shops within the market. The seized goods, all bearing counterfeit “Ne Minute” branding, represent a widespread attempt to deceive consumers and infringe upon intellectual property rights.

Details of Offenders Involved:

  • Sonu Chagur Jaiswal – Shop No. 196

  • Ambalal Sujanaram Devasi – Shop No. 80

  • Ramaram Babulal Choudhary – Shop No. 52

All three individuals were found in possession of a great number of fake glassware items, intended for sale under the guise of authenticity, thereby violating multiple legal statutes related to copyright and consumer protection.

Legal Action:

The accused have been charged under relevant sections of the Copyright Act, 1957, including:

  • Section 51 – Infringement of copyright

  • Section 63 – Penalties for knowingly infringing copyright

These provisions carry strict penalties, including both fines and potential imprisonment, reflecting the serious nature of the offense.

Official Remarks:

“This is a serious offense that not only violates intellectual property rights but also misleads consumers and harms legitimate businesses,” said Senior Police Inspector Mr. Shailendra Raghuna, who led the operation.

Officials from IPINDS also praised the rapid response and decisive action, reinforcing the importance of proactive enforcement in protecting consumers and upholding brand integrity.

Ongoing Investigation:

Authorities are now expanding their investigation to trace the entire counterfeit distribution network, including possible manufacturers or suppliers operating in the background. Early reports suggest that this operation may be part of a larger illegal trade ring, targeting popular branded consumer goods.

This raid sends a clear warning to those engaged in counterfeit activities, particularly in dense retail hubs like Platinum Mall, where counterfeit trade has been difficult to detect.

Consumer Advisory:

ACN urges consumers to remain alert and take the following precautions:

  • Always purchase products from authorized dealers

  • Verify authenticity via official brand channels

  • Report any suspicious or fake goods to the nearest police station or the brand’s customer support

Counterfeit items not only deceive buyers but can also pose serious health and safety risks. Choosing genuine products ensures peace of mind and long-term value.
