Sakinaka Police Crack Down on Counterfeit Cosmetic Operation Targeting VEET Brand

In a major enforcement action against counterfeit cosmetic products, the Sakinaka Police, in close collaboration with the Intellectual Property Investigation & Detective Services (IPINDS), executed a successful raid in the Jarimari area of Sakinaka, Mumbai, uncovering a large cache of fake “VEET” hair removal cream—a widely recognized and trusted personal care brand manufactured by M/S Reckitt Benckiser (India) Pvt. Ltd.

The operation was launched following a formal complaint from the brand owner, who reported the unauthorized replication and distribution of its product. Acting promptly on the intelligence, the police conducted a targeted search that exposed an illegal storage and distribution setup.

Key Accused Identified:

The First Information Report (FIR No. 0116/2025) was registered under critical sections of the Copyright Act, 1957, namely:

• Section 51 – Infringement of copyright

• Section 63 – Punishment for knowing and willful copyright violations

The individuals have been identified as:

• Jagdish Bhavarlal Kumavat

• Bhagwanlal Bhavarlal Kumavat

Both are suspected of being directly involved in either the production or distribution of the counterfeit VEET products from the raided premises.

Nature of Seizure:

Authorities reported the seizure of a great number of counterfeit personal care items that closely mimicked original VEET packaging. These fake goods were prepared for unauthorized sale and could easily mislead unsuspecting consumers due to their high-level packaging imitation.

Public Safety Concerns:

According to Senior Police Inspector Mr. Yogesh Ramchandra, who led the operation, the counterfeit creams pose significant health risks, as such products often contain unregulated and potentially harmful substances.

“This action is not just about protecting intellectual property—it’s about protecting consumers from unverified, substandard products that could seriously harm their skin or health,” said Inspector Ramchandra.

Officials from IPINDS stressed the ongoing need for vigilance and collaboration between enforcement authorities and brand owners to disrupt counterfeit supply chains operating in urban markets.

Investigation Continues:

Further investigation is currently underway to trace the origin of the fake products and uncover any additional links in the counterfeit distribution network. Authorities have indicated that more arrests may follow, as the scale of the operation becomes clearer.
