Malvani Police Raid Uncovers Large Cache of Counterfeit “Streax” Hair Serum in Mumbai

In a decisive enforcement action against counterfeit cosmetic products, the Malvani Police conducted a successful raid on a local vendor in the Malad’s Malvani area, uncovering a significant volume of fake “Streax Hair Serum” bottles—a widely trusted haircare brand in India.

The raid was carried out on Monday, following a formal complaint by the Intellectual Property Investigation & Detective Services (IPINDS) team, representing the brand owner. The complaint led to a prompt and coordinated operation under FIR No. 0216/2025, resulting in the arrest of one individual and the seizure of a substantial number of counterfeit cosmetic items.

Key Offender Identified:

The individual arrested in the case has been identified as:

  • Shama Istiyak Ahmed Ansari

Authorities believe the Suspect played a direct role in the illegal sale and distribution of fake Streax Hair Serum bottles, which closely imitated the original product’s branding and packaging.

Legal Action Taken:

The case has been filed under the following legal provisions:

  • Sections 51 & 63 of the Copyright Act, 1957 – addressing copyright infringement and associated penalties

  • Section 319(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Act, 2023 – dealing with the illegal manufacturing and distribution of counterfeit goods

These laws provide for stringent penalties, including imprisonment and monetary fines, for those found guilty of such offenses.

Public Safety Risks and Official Statement:

Authorities highlighted the serious risks posed by counterfeit cosmetic items, which may contain unregulated, harmful ingredients that can lead to adverse skin reactions or long-term health complications.

“This is a serious threat to public health and consumer trust. We are committed to acting swiftly against those who exploit well-known brands for personal gain through illegal means,” said Senior Police Inspector Shailendra Raghuna, who led the operation.

Officials from IPINDS echoed this sentiment, noting that the raid is part of a larger campaign to dismantle counterfeit operations in metropolitan markets, where unsuspecting consumers are often targeted.

Ongoing Investigation:

Authorities have confirmed that investigations are ongoing to identify any wider supply chain or manufacturing sources linked to the seized counterfeit goods. Additional raids and arrests are likely, as the police work to trace the full extent of the counterfeit operation.

Consumer Advisory:

ACN urges all consumers to remain vigilant and take the following safety precautions:

  • Purchase only from authorized and verified retailers

  • Inspect product packaging for inconsistencies or spelling errors

  • Report suspicious products immediately to law enforcement or brand support channels

Counterfeit cosmetics can be hazardous to your health. Stay informed, stay cautious, and always choose genuine products to ensure your safety and peace of mind.
