22,000+ Fake “Fortune Biryani Rice” Wrappers Seized in Multi-Agency Raid Across Dhaka
In a major operation targeting counterfeit food packaging, enforcement agencies in Dhaka uncovered a large-scale network involved in the production and distribution of fake “Fortune Biryani Special Basmati Rice” wrappers. The coordinated crackdown led to the seizure of over 22,000 counterfeit wrappers and vital counterfeiting equipment from multiple locations in the Begum Bazar area, a known hub for wholesale and packaging businesses.
The raid was carried out by a joint task force comprising:

Rapid Action Force (RAF)

Chawkbazar Police Station

Supported by intelligence and formal complaint from the IPINDS (Intellectual Property Investigation & Detective Services) team.
⚠️ Key Offenders Identified:

Md. Russel – Shajal Enterprises (4,800 counterfeit wrappers)

Shipon Sakr Roni – Shipon Enterprises (3,200 counterfeit wrappers)

Md. Tariqul Islam Miraj – Poddar Printing Press
(14,000 counterfeit wrappers, printing dies, artwork screens, and digital design files)
Investigators confirmed that Poddar Printing Press served as the central hub for reproducing fake packaging materials, which were later distributed to associated entities for unauthorized commercial use.

Authorities emphasized the public health risk posed by counterfeit food packaging—unregulated products may be sold under trusted brand labels, misleading consumers and threatening both health and safety.
“This raid is part of our ongoing national strategy to eliminate counterfeit goods. Protecting consumers and brand owners is a top priority,” stated a BSTI official.
Legal proceedings are underway, and the accused are likely to face charges under IP protection laws and consumer safety regulations. Investigations continue, with more raids expected in the coming weeks.
