Brand Protection Breakthrough: Local Trader Booked for Counterfeit “Sleep Well” Incense Products in Kurnool
In a significant move to counter intellectual property violations, the Kurnool Town – I Police Station has officially registered a case of copyright infringement against a local trader accused of unauthorized usage of the renowned “Sleep Well” brand, owned by M/s Ashika Incense Incense Inc., a well-established incense manufacturer headquartered in Kurnool.
Case Details:
The action follows a formal complaint filed by the Intellectual Property Investigation and Surveillance (IPINDS) team, which has been actively tracking cases of brand infringement across India. Acting on the complaint, FIR No. 0021/2025 was lodged, with the investigation spearheaded by Senior Police Inspector Mr. M. Ramaiah Naidu.
The trader in question, Mr. Jagdish Kumar, who was operating under the business name Sri Padmavathi Cosmetics, located on Nehru Road, Kurnool, is alleged to have been involved in the production and distribution of counterfeit “Sleep Well” incense products. These goods were being fraudulently marketed as genuine, deceiving customers and infringing on the brand’s trademark protections.
Legal Action:
The case has been registered under the following legal provisions:
-
Section 63 of the Copyright Act, 1957 – addressing willful copyright violations
-
Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Act, 2023 – related to the sale of counterfeit products
Officials have emphasized that the case sets a precedent for strong legal action against brand forgery and consumer deception, especially in the fast-growing incense and cosmetics markets.
Enforcement Focus:
According to preliminary reports, investigators are now working to determine whether the operation is part of a larger counterfeit supply chain. The raid was aimed not only at seizing fake products but also at dismantling any broader distribution network that may exist in the region or beyond.
Senior Inspector M. Ramaiah Naidu reiterated the department’s zero-tolerance approach toward counterfeit manufacturing, citing consumer protection and brand integrity as top priorities.
Consumer Alert:
This case stands as a stark reminder of how counterfeit goods can mislead unsuspecting buyers and cause serious consequences, including safety concerns and economic damage. The impact of such operations extends beyond brands—it affects consumers’ trust and wellbeing.
Consumer Advisory:
Your Trust, Your Safety – Choose Original.
Customers are strongly urged to purchase products only from verified and authorized outlets. Counterfeit goods often lack quality control, pose health hazards, and are subject to legal penalties for those involved.
To protect yourself:
-
Verify authenticity before purchasing
-
Check brand packaging and dealer credentials
-
Report suspected counterfeit items to authorities or the brand’s support team
Don’t risk your safety or peace of mind—stay vigilant and support genuine brands.
